Camp Metacomet Descriptions

Traditional

The all-time classic of Camp Metacomet is traditional camp. Campers have the opportunity to explore various activities, including archery, sports, rock climbing, ropes, swim lessons, arts & craft and more! (Ages 5-12)

Specialty Camps

In addition to our traditional option, Camp Metacomet offers the following programs:

Adventure

Campers will participate in a variety of team building activities using our high and low ropes challenge course. In addition, the group will strategize through planned activities and build structures using limited natural resources. (Ages 8-12) 

Counselor in Training (CIT) 

CITs will be led through a mock staff training and work directly with younger campers to improve their skills in hopes of becoming a counselor. CITs will have an opportunity to participate in team building activities and work on interview skills to prepare them for future employment. (Ages 15-16)

Drama

Put your theatrical skills to the test! Campers will work throughout the week to prepare a theatrical production during our Friday awards ceremony. Campers will learn lines, design sets and build props to enhance their dramatic experience and build self-confidence. (Ages 8-12)

Farm to Table

This two-week camp will provide campers the opportunity to work closely with our Sharing the Harvest community farm.  Campers will harvest produce and use some of the resources to prepare healthy meals and snacks using our kitchen. (Ages 8-12)

Junior Lifeguard

As a Jr. Lifeguard, campers will practice basic water safety techniques, swimming skill development, and rescue skills to prepare themselves to be a future water protection expert.  (Ages 10-15)

Kayak

Kayak campers will walk down to the harbor at Apponagansett Beach accompanied by YMCA staff and spend the morning with the instructors from Osprey as they get specialized training on kayak safety and techniques to explore the waters. Campers will return to the Y to rejoin the fun with traditional camp activities in the afternoon. (Ages 11-15)

K’Nex Engineering

Our engineers will work in groups and on solo projects using K’NEX building materials as well as Legos and other structural building blocks to learn the basics of physics and structures. (Ages 8-12)

Kids Build

Enjoy working with your hands and building basic structures? Kids build is perfect for the future carpenter or engineer who will enjoy using power tools such as hammers and drills to work on useful projects while being supervised by an experienced staff member. (Ages 8-12)

Leaders in Training (LIT)

LITs will work together on team building activities, camp service projects and will also get to enjoy traditional camp activities such as swim lessons, ropes, and archery. (Ages 13-14)

Learn to Swim

Campers will spend their morning swimming and playing games to work on stroke development and swim technique to gain confidence in their swimming skills. (Ages 5-12)

Media

Media camp is perfect for the young creative minds who want to work with recording music videos, creating movie trailers, and recording podcasts. (Ages 8-12)

Paddleboard

Paddleboard campers will walk down to the harbor at Apponagansett Beach accompanied by YMCA staff and spend the morning with the instructors from Osprey as they get specialized training on paddleboard safety and techniques to explore the water. Campers will return to the Y to rejoin the fun for traditional camp activities in the afternoon. (Ages 11-15)

Picasso

Picasso camp will allow your creative camper to work on a variety of art projects using various mediums and materials, challenging them to flourish into the artist of their dreams. (Ages 11-15)

Scamper

Learn the basics of summer camp at the YMCA! Scampers will get daily swim lessons and participate in camp games and activities including arts & crafts, sports, nature & more. We will even have time for an indoor rest to cool down from the summer heat. (Ages 4-5)

Sports

Sports camp will give your young athlete an opportunity to work through various skills and drills for multiple sports with an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. (Ages 8-12)

STEM

STEM camp is perfect for the young thinker and designer who is looking to expand their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Campers will explore detailed activities to learn, problem-solve, and advance their skills. (Ages 8-12)
