Advanced Sailing-Opti Racing
Ages 10-15

  • This advanced sailing camp provides an introduction to the sport of sailboat racing in the Mattapoisett Harbor. This camp teaches participants basic racing rules, advanced sailing technique, racing strategy, sportsmanship, and problem solving. Each session concludes with a mini regatta at Camp Massasoit. Prior sailing experience is required. Camper must be minnow level and/or pass swim test prior to enrollment. You may take this swim test at the Gleason Family YMCA prior to camp to be sure you are at the right swim level and ready for this camp; if you have any questions about this swim test or level requirements please contact the Mattapoisett YMCA.

Bold | Gold
Ages 13-15

  • Boys/Girls Outdoor Leadership Development is a trans-formative teen leadership program, set in an outdoor environment, is divided into culturally-diverse groups who participate in physical, cognitive, and social-emotional challenges, alongside adventure and teamwork. All the elements of the program help teens develop friendships, fostering a sense of belonging, which are critical to their positive youth development journeys.

Camp Chefs
Ages 8-12

  • In this camp, campers will bake, blend, and braise. The camp chefs will create a variety of dishes and serve them with style. Campers will learn to make some great dishes using healthy ingredients. Children will also have the opportunity to practice their measuring and mixing skills. It will all come together in a delicious final product each day. Campers will also participate in traditional outdoor camp activities throughout the week.

Cheer
Ages 8-14

  • Want everyone to cheer for your team? Cheer staff will aim to instill self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork in a fun environment. Campers will practice stunting, jumps, cheers, dance and tumbling. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Counselor in Training
Age 15

  • This program is designed for teens who are determined to become future camp staff. It nurtures leadership and responsibility while training young adults in the skills necessary to become potential staff members. Campers will receive certifications in First Aid, CPR, Child Abuse Prevention, and Ropes Course Belay Training.

Drama
Ages 8-14

  • If you have passion for performing arts, this camp program will introduce campers to improvisation and role-playing, while working towards a theatrical performance. Campers of all experience levels are welcome. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Golf
Ages 9-14

  • This camp is designed to teach campers the basics of golf. Campers will head over to Reservation Golf Course just up the road from us each day and work with a pro. We will learn the rules of the game, different strokes, and terminology through hands-on learning and practice. Campers will participate in traditional camp activities as well. Campers must bring their own clubs.

Intro to Guitar
Ages 9-14

  • Calling all music lovers! This camp is designed to teach campers the basics of guitar. We will learn how play cords, transitions and more. Campers will learn basic introductory songs and work on getting comfortable with the instrument. Campers will participate in traditional camp activities as well. Guitars will be provided.

Intro to Water Sports
Ages 9-12

  • This camp is designed for the campers who want to get a feel for what water sports are all about. Special emphasis will be placed on making campers comfortable with all basic aspects of sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddle boarding. The goal of this camp is to help campers gain confidence on and off the water. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Movie Making
Ages 9-14

  • This experience is for campers who are interested in exploring the world of video production in partnership with ORCTV. Campers will learn about story boarding, camera operation techniques, and video editing. Campers will utilize contemporary technology such as tablets and movie apps to produce their movie. The final product will be a movie centering around life at camp. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Ocean Kayak
Ages 9-14

  • Campers will learn the basic paddling strokes, boat safety, take trips around the harbor, and participate in camp activities. Campers must be minnow level and/or pass swim test prior to enrollment. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week. You may take this swim test at the Gleason Family YMCA prior to camp to be sure you are at the right swim level and ready for this camp; if you have any questions about this swim test or level requirements please contact the Mattapoisett YMCA.

Pottery
Ages 8-14

  • Campers will create exciting new clay projects. The pottery portion of the day will take half of each day, with the remaining half focusing on traditional camp activities. Campers will learn a variety of hand-building techniques, surface design application, and even get their hands on the potter’s wheel! By the end of the session, campers will have gained new skills in ceramics and have a collection of beautiful, glazed pottery to enjoy for years to come.

River Exploration
Ages 9-12

  • Campers will receive an active nature camp focused on learning and stewardship. There will be plenty of hands-on exploration of the Mattapoisett River. Campers will hike, help clear trails, explore the woods, and investigate the environment. Field trips to the Y’s Rochester property on Snipatuit Pond are part of the program. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Robotics
Ages 8-12

  • Your child will get hands-on experience building and animating a new LEGO® robot each week while learning important science and engineering concepts along the way. This program is tailored to ensure kids stay motivated, interested and challenged beyond the classroom. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Seaside Painting
Ages 10-14

  • Come and learn the gentle art of watercolor painting with the ocean breeze through your hair. Learn watercolor basics such as appropriate watercolor materials and tools, ways for organizing your palette, color, composition, painting theory, and more. This camp will focus on style and technique as campers express themselves with this wonderful medium. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Sailing
Ages 8-14

  • This camp offers a unique blend of teamwork and self-reliance by teaching to all levels while focusing on safety and general nautical knowledge. Campers will learn aboard Capri 14.2s and Optis. No prior sailing experience required. Sailing Explorers
Ages 7-8

  • This camp is designed for the younger campers who want to get a feel for what sailing and other water sports are all about. Sports
Ages 7-12

  • This camp is designed for campers of all levels that love sports. Sports camp will be a sports mix including backyard sports, soccer, basketball, etc. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Super Silly Science
Ages 8-12

  • Explore science with hands on experiments, demonstrations, and lots of fun with earth science, physics, chemistry, and biology. Campers will be supplied with kid-friendly, kitchen-friendly ideas for experiments to do at home. Campers will experiment with ordinary things that melt into goop, ooze, fizz, bang, bounce or bubble. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities throughout the week.

Traditional Camp
Ages 5-12

  • Campers will experience a variety of camp activities which include archery, crafts, sports, camp games, nature walks, dance, ropes challenge course and climbing tower with zip line, and swim lessons each day. Special events will be planned throughout the summer, weekly themes and specialty days will be announced in camper updates and on our Facebook page!
