Conveniently located in the heart of historic downtown New Bedford, the New Bedford YMCA (60,000 square feet)offers a wide variety of activities for all ages. This facility includes an indoor swimming pool, racquetball courts, indoor running track, stadium stairs, rock climbing wall, two gymnasiums, youth and adult wellness centers, game bikes, swimming lessons, land and water aerobics, yoga, pilates, spinning classes, preschool and afterschool childcare, babysitting and family prime time.

Child Care services are available for Preschool (ages 2.9–5 years) and Afterschool care (grades K-6). Child Watch babysitting services is designed to accommodate children ages 3 months – 9 years for limited amounts of time (1-2 hours) while parents use the facility. Camp Frederick Douglass
The site of Camp Frederick Douglass, at the New Bedford YMCA offers a small, positive traditional camp setting for up to 100 children, allowing the individuality of each camper to flourish throughout the summer. Along with traditional camp, Camp Douglass offers a variety of specialty camps including: Sports Mix, Basketball, Flag Football, Soccer, Softball, Baseball and Field Hockey. Extended Care is available in the mornings from 7:30-9:00am and in the afternoons 4:00-5:30pm. The deadline for YCares Financial Assistance for camp has been extended. We encourage you to apply today. Parents or Guardians are responsible for providing transportation.

School vacation camp is also offered during December, February and April public school vacation weeks. For more information, contact the Camp Director at bhickey@ymcasouthcoast.org or 508-997-0734, Ext. 20. Accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA).

Facility Rentals:

The New Bedford YMCA is the perfect setting for youth groups, team building programs on the rock wall, school programs, and children’s birthday parties. Please call 508-997-0734 for details. Guests must abide by the no alcohol and no smoking policy.
