Fulfill the Promise Capital Campaign
The Gleason Family YMCA is poised to finish the final phase of the expansion construction; we have built the shell for a multi-purpose room and separate men’s and women’s locker rooms with therapeutic steam and sauna. These locker rooms are a significant addition, as they enable the Y to establish age-appropriate locker rooms by devoting the two existing locker rooms strictly for youth age 18 and under; one for boys and one for girls. The new multi-purpose room will enable the Y to double the number of group fitness classes for all ages and abilities.
In April, 2011 the Gleason Family YMCA received a $400,000 challenge grant from the Penzance Foundation to help finish the worthwhile expansion. That means the Penzance Foundation offered to match dollar-for-dollar all donations, up to $400,000. The deadline was December 31, 2011.
We have been given a wonderful opportunity to finish the expansion. Multi-year pledges were accepted for the match too. Thanks to generous Y members and friends, we have met the requirements of the match. We have realized $800,000 and more to finish the expansion. We expect the expansion to be finished by this July. Y is grateful to its to members, the community, area philanthropists, foundations and businesses who helped complete the match.
